FONEX Acquires Sak Data Inc.’s Fiber Optic Division, and Partners with SmartOptic SA.

FONEX Data Systems Inc., Headquartered in Montréal, Québec, Acquires Sak Data Inc.’s Fiber Optic Division, Based in Mississauga, Ontario, and Partners with SmartOptic SA, Further Enhancing Its Fiber Optic Leadership and Strengthening Ties with Infinera Inc.

Montreal, September 1, 2023 

FONEX data systems Inc (FONEX) announced effective today it has entered into a definitive agreement with Sak Data Products Inc’s (Sak Data) to acquire the assets associated with its fiber optics solutions business. Sak Data customers currently purchasing fiber optic switching and transmission solutions manufactured by INFINERA Corporation and SmartOptics AS will henceforth procure them through FONEX.

FONEX is an INFINERA partner and has been providing the full suite of expertise, technical and logistic services to its Canadian customers since 2017.  These capabilities will also be extended to serve Sak Data customers that use INFINERA equipment and to continue the relationship built during Sak Data’s tenure. 

FONEX welcomes SmartOptics SA as new vendor partner, further enriching our fiber-optic switching and transport portfolio of solutions. We look forward to serving Sak Data’s SmartOptics customers in Canada and expanding the coverage to other territories served by FONEX, including the USA and Europe.

Sak Data principals have been seeking a suitable acquirer of its fiber optic solutions business for the past year as part of its desire to wind down operations towards retirement. A major criterion in its selection process was finding a firm with the same values and concern for customer service, technical expertise and follow-though at all levels.
